Wedding Day Skin Prep

I may have only just got engaged but the road to clear skin seems like a long one, so I’m starting that journey now!

Regardless of age, gender or lifestyle, it is so important that we take the time to care for our skin. It is our bodies largest organ that is exposed to our polluted environment throughout the day, therefore is important to ensure we care for and protect our skin.

Over the coming months, I will be sharing tips, tricks and products, with the aim to help tackle any skin issues in the lead up to my BIG DAY.

This first piece is focusing around one of the most common skin issues, breakouts.

Breakouts, acne, spots, lumps, bumps and boils, lets face it, whatever you call them, we all hate them and being someone that struggled with breakouts throughout my earlier adult life, I have tried EVERYTHING; from creams, to gels, medication, to sprays and sadly, nothing seemed to work. Until the incredible Dermalogica came into my life.

Thanks to Dermalogica, I have finally found the products and routine that has helped to maintain healthy, spot-free clear skin that I will be following religiously before I become a bride and here are some of my top tips on how it can hopefully help you too.

Step 1.

PreCleanse

Its so important to make sure you are double cleansing twice a day. By using an oil-based cleanser, first you remove make-up, sebum and pollution from the skin; allowing your second cleanse to work more effectively. Just like shampooing your hair, TWICE. Always.

Dispense the PreCleanse into dry hands. Massage over dry face and eyes to dissolve surface oil and dirt. Concentrate on areas of congestion or stubborn debris. Wet hands and continue massaging to create a light, milky emulsion. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 2.

Ultra Calming Cleanser

Use a cleanser multiple times throughout the day, morning and night. Try to use this cleanser as a base for your skincare routine, I personally use as an additional face wash. Apply a generous amount all over the face, gently massage and remove with warm water.

Step 3.

Daily Microfoliant

After rinsing away the Ultra Calming Cleanser, apply a small amount of the Daily Microfoliant to the palm of your hand. Add a generous amount of water and rub together to create a foamy residue. Apply this all over the face, avoiding the eye area. Again, massaging this product gently into the skin, with extra time spent on areas of congestion.

Rinse away with cold water. With this particular product you can use once a day and you will really notice a difference in doing so.

Step 4.

Antioxidant Hydramist

Give a spritz of the antioxidant hydramist all over your face and allow to set. This product adds hydration and protects your skin from free radical damage (pollution). It can be applied at multiple times throughout the day, without the need to touch your face once, which is often one cause of breakouts.

Step 5.

Redness Relief Essence

Apply a 10p sized amount to the palm of your hand, rub together and gently apply to your face, again avoiding your eye area and pat into your skin upwards. This is a fantastic product for calming your skin and reducing any redness, again try to use this twice a day.

Step 6.

Age Bright Clearing Serum

This serum is everything. I apply 3 small drops of the serum around my face. The clearing serum contains salicylic acid which reduces breakouts to clear the skin. I use this product morning and night to help keep skin clean and fresh whilst still adding hydration.

Step 7.

Age Bright Spot Fader

Combined with the serum above, this stuff works miracles. Apply directly to the affected areas and gently massage in. I personally use a Rose Quartz Roller to massage this into the skin/breakout and it really works. This is a two-in-one active clearing treatment that reduces the apprentice of breakouts and post-breakout marks.

Step 8.

Invisible Physical Defense SPF30

To finish your routine, it is important to use SPF every morning as sun damage doesn’t only happen during the summer months. Photo damage and UV exposure (which causes ageing) occur from exposure to daylight. It can even happen through windows! Therefore, protecting the skin every day is imperative. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the discoloration left after a breakout) is made darker when it is exposed to UV light making it important to keep your skin protected with an SPF, like the new Dermalogica invisible physical defense spf cream.

I follow this routine every single day and it has totally rejuvenated my skin. If you attend a Dermalogica counter, they will provide you with a free face-mapping service that will offer a guide, specifically designed for your skin and recommend any suitable products.

The products above have become essential to my daily routine and I cannot imagine a day without them. It is so important to find time for your skin, just like you find time to eat and drink. And for me, ensuring my skin is glowing for my wedding day is essential!
